Summary:Businesses could be shielded from getting sued over information they share with customers and each other about the potentially computer-cruching "millennium bug," under a proposal unveiled Wednesday by Utah Sen. Robert Bennett. Calling the Year 2000 problem "the biggest challenge of the information revolution," Republican Bennett introduced Senate Bill 2392 in hopes of breaking what he called "a stony silence" among industry officials about their plans for dealing with the problem, also known as Y2K. According to Bennett, representatives from a wide range of industries say they are reluctant to share details of their plans for fixing the problem, largely because they fear litigation if those plans are unsuccessful.
