Not another manic 'Munday' ; Intriguing Zachary mystery as slow as a Southern drawl

Munday falls under the category known as "police procedural." The text follows Dan Munday, the middle-aged, out-of-shape chief of the four-man Fortier Beach police department. Be further forewarned: Munday is not one of your fast, thrill-a- page adventure yarns. Time moves slower the closer you get to the beach, and while Dan is no slouch (even if he does carry a few extra pounds), he and the locals take their time with things, with conversations that sometimes run on for a page or two or three. Many locals, I suspect, will be amused by Dan and [Clare]'s wry observations on local politics, on the flaps about local bridges and about the sorry state of the public schools. (Dan and Clare go on and on about the sorry moral state of today's teenagers, even as they're hopping in the sack for various softcore activities. Ah, sex - what a shame it's wasted on the young.)
