Summary: | As president and part owner of Sipi Metals, a precious metal recycling and refining company in Chicago's proposed Elston Corridor Planned Manufacturing District, I read with interest your Sept. 10 editorial opposing these districts. Clearly Sipi Metals and its employees would benefit from this type of zoning. Sipi Metals is an excellent example of what can happen when a company receives zoning support from the city. We have invested more than $10 million at our plant. Our Chicago location is ideal, providing us with an excellent pool of workers from all areas of the city and immediate access to transportation. Although current market conditions tempt us to consider relocation outside of Chicago, we are doing what we can to stay here. Zoning our district just for manufacturing would assure us the stability we need to stay, and keep our 120 high-paying jobs (and tax dollars) in the city. |
