| Abstract | As she loaded her next roll of black-and-white film and posed two young subjects decked out in overalls on a bale of hay late Sunday, [Vicki] Vlad's attention was drawn to a far-off whir - like an engine - in the distance. The vintage aircraft, used for search and rescue missions in the late 1950s, set down around 3:30 p.m. at the eastern end of the park, near Leeds and Stearns streets, after the crew experienced mechanical trouble, according to police and the helicopter crew. The aircraft was en route to Chino Airport from Point Mugu when the pilot detected engine trouble, [Bruce] Rodgers said while standing outside the craft Monday trying to figure a way to get it back to his hometown of San Diego. |
