| Abstract | MAN CONVICTED IN DRUG MURDER. Richie Sanabria should have known better than to sell marijuana, but he should not have paid for his bad choice with his life, his family said Friday as Travis Robinson was convicted of murdering him during a drug deal gone bad. A jury deliberated for about a day in a Riverhead courtroom before convicting Robinson, 25, of Mastic Beach, of second-degree murder for shooting Sanabria, 19, on Aug. 3, 2004. Robinson's attorney, Henry O'Brien, said he was "shocked" and maintained his client's innocence. Sanabria met with Robinson and his co-defendant, Elvis Deschamps, 20, inside his truck parked near a Shirley middle school to sell them marijuana. The two defendants tried to rob Sanabria when Robinson panicked and shot him, police said. Deschamps has pleaded guilty to attempted robbery and will get 8 years in prison. |
