| Abstract | Time doesn't stand still at Berwick Academy. This summer, in fact, it will be lowered to the ground, fixed up and returned to its place atop the Fogg Memorial Building. Repair work will begin next month on the 104-year-old building's historic bell tower. Workers will lower the gold-domed white wooden tower, rebuild the copper roof and belfry floor and add new gilding. One change was to bring in all the "renegade" pits that had been operating without Planning Board approval and require each owner to get a permit within five years. Another element of the ordinance required pit owners who did have permits to present maps showing the current size and expected future growth of their excavations - within 90 days. |
