Abstract Environmentalists are not forcing anybody to live downtown or take away anyone's cars. What environmentalists are trying to do is make available certain alternatives such as mass transit. Those who choose to use mass transit are helping the environment; those who do not will probably continue to drive their kids to the bus stop, drive their kids to school while idling behind half-empty buses, and buy their 16-year-olds gas-guzzling SUVs. Once gas is gone, it's gone. Then nobody could drive, which would defeat the purpose, wouldn't it? The Georgia Highway Contractors Association is airing television ads that focus on the desire of an overwhelming majority of metro Atlanta taxpayers to accelerate the construction of badly needed roads and highways in the metro area. [Alessandra Eakin]'s old college boyfriend was right on the mark to dump her for being a "bigoted, sheltered snob." Her nauseating article made that perfectly clear. In a single article, she managed to offend most of metro Atlanta's intown and suburban areas with her sweeping negative generalities. It is really quite sad Eakin has such a shallow and close-minded view of a thriving, unique and wonderfully diverse city. No wonder she can't find a mate.
