Summary:The stated reason for this privatisation of this vital service is to save money. This flies in the face of evidence. Last year some pounds 3m was returned to NHS trusts from NHS Logistics as a value rebate. If run by private companies, it is unlikely that the shareholders will be so generous. NHS Logistics delivers directly to operating theatres and hospital wards and has proven experience of doing so. This is not the case with DHL, a parcel delivery company or its partner, Novation.
