Abstract Stability is one of the basic characteristics of catalysts that determine to a large degree the efficiency of catalyst utilization in industry. A classification of the factors responsible for the loss of activity in commercial catalysts has been given. In examining the catalytic stability of platinized alumina catalysts, the authors should distinguish between the factors influencing the length of the runs between regenerations and the factors influencing the total service life of the catalyst. One of the factors in the drop of catalytic activity that influences the length of the runs between regenerations is the coking of the catalyst. In order to reduce the coking, in a number of cases it has been necessarry to deviate from the thermodynamically optimal process conditions.
