Abstract In a comparison of Platonic & queer theory, the consequences of the abandonment of the elementary parameters of rational thought in the understanding of the homoerotic subject are examined. The homoerotic subject appeared in Plato through the enunciation of philosophical discourse, in opposition to rhetoric. For Plato, love of masculine beauty was a condition of love of knowledge. Eros leads the subject to search for truth in Platonic theory, but to critique the truth in queer theory. In the postmodern establishment of the ancient connection between Eros & discourse, queer theory places the homoerotic subject on the side of rhetoric, in opposition to the modes of rational knowledge known in traditional philosophy. 26 References.
