Summary:Unanticipated and unmanaged natural and man-made disasters can cause substantial damage to marinas and adjacent facilities. Hurricanes, floods, and fires are potential disasters for many marinas, and their likelihood of occurrence and the resulting risk of damage should be incorporated into the design analysis of each marina facility. Insurance companies are becoming more critical of design and operations of marina facilities that do not address potential disasters. The lack of disaster planning during design often transmits into increased insurance premiums or perhaps subsequent litigation for damages.
