Summary: | A nude study by Jean-Léon Gérôme, which is not included in Gerald Ackerman's catalogue raisonné of the artist's work and recently came up at auction, represents one of the artist's favourite models, Emma Dupont. It is certain that Dupont and Gérôme worked closely together in the peculiarly intimate studio praxes of posing and painting and that the smile in Nude (Emma Dupont) projects the warm feelings between artist and model.
