Abstract Researchers working at the research station located in Melpitz, Germany, work for the Institut fur Tropospharenforschung in Liepzig. These researchers have been collecting aerosol filter samples from the heavily industrialized basin of Leipzig. Time series data are provided. Results are presented from a three-year comparison of the performances of two aerosol sampling schemes, namely the Sierra-Andersen-PM 10 high volume sampler, and the Rupprecht and Patashnik Company Model Partisol 2000 system. Findings from the analysis program indicated general declines in soot and sulfate, and general increases in nitrate and ammonium concentrations over time. The highest levels of coarse particles occurred during the summer months. Data detailing a downward trend in gravimetric mass concentration are examined.
