Abstract | Introduction & Objective: An in silico model was developed for Glucotrack's implantable Continuous Blood Glucose Monitor (CBGM). Objectives included determining the longevity of the enzyme-based, electrochemical continuous glucose sensor and identifying critical design parameters for its performance. Methods: COMSOL Multiphysics® was used to develop an in silico model predicated on, and substantiated against, established benchmarks in continuous glucose sensor modeling research. Glucotrack sensor performance and analyte transport properties were determined from in vitro testing. The model used these inputs to simulate Glucotrack CBGM sensor longevity and performance in response to various design parameters. Results: The Glucotrack CBGM demonstrated a simulated longevity of at least 2.5 years, as determined by the major limiting factor (enduring enzyme activity). The model enabled rapid identification of critical relationships between key sensor design parameters and the cascade of processes that occur within a glucose sensor. Conclusion: The model provides valuable insights into implantable CBGM sensor longevity. In silico modeling, coupled with sensor properties derived from in vitro testing, is an important tool for designing successful long-term glucose sensors. |
