The first written evidence refers to the existence of the Herculane Baths and the implementation of some physiotherapy procedures since the year 106, but this medical branch developed especially at the end of the 19th century, beginning with the 20th century, with the expansion of this specialty on the territory of Europe. Medical gymnastics developed as a result of physical training in military schools, and was later re-considered as a method of prevention and treatment for various illnesses.
