Summary: | A M J Schreijer and colleagues (March 11, p 832)1 exposed 71 healthy young volunteers with factor V Leiden mutation, oral contraceptive use, or both, to an 8-h flight simulation followed by an 8-h movie marathon 2 weeks later, and compared their coagulation activity to that found in routine daily life. Moreover, in the exclusion criteria, Schreijer and colleagues only vaguely refer to "disease affecting coagulation", without specifying whether efforts were made to screen for other potential risk factors-eg, methylene tetrahydrofolate reductase deficiency, antithrombin III levels, protein C and S functionality, antiphospholipid antibodies including lupus anticoagulant, and high serum homocysteine that could have affected the results. |
