Summary:The New School (NS), as an educational model, implemented in Colombian rural areas, that articulates multigrade classes and aims at contributing to the education of competent, responsible and dynamic subjects through the implementation of didactic strategies that integrate both the social context surrounding the institution and the different types of learners (Castro, 2010, p.5). Consequently, the activities planned for the classroom must be consistent with both elements in order to facilitate the application of the model. In this regard, it is possible to realize the design weaknesses of the furniture existing in Colombian rural schools, since it does not comply with the actual functional, ergonomic and educational flexibility requirements. The aforementioned motivated an intervention from the point of view of industrial design as a discipline focused on the development of a conceptual proposal that managed to schematize a model for basic furniture with seats and implementation plans. The instrument used for the preliminary diagnosis was the Rapid Entire Body Assessment (REBA) , designed for the analysis of the postural load. It was applied in the year 2013 to 10 children, ranging between 5 and 10, who belonged to the Palo Blanco rural school in Aratoca, Santander.
