Abstract This work presents the methodology, the steps, the stages and the results of two Leonardo type European projects which have as target the standardization of the professional development in the field of the protection offered for the persons which are in a risk / abandon situation. The projects Leonardo Relais I and II have been developed between 2002 - 2004 and 2006 - 2008 and have brought together specialists - researchers, social assistants, doctors, sociologists, psychologists, and teachers - and representatives of the local and regional authorities from nine countries members of the European Union: France, Italy, Spain, Romania, Germany, Denmark, Hungary, Bulgaria and Portugal. For Romania, the scientific coordinator within the projects was "Al. I. Cuza" University in Iasi, by the Faculty of Psychology and the Faculty of Philosophy - Social Assistance Department. The target of the two projects was, starting both from the specific national realities regarding the dynamics of the abandon phenomena, as well as from the processes of professionalization of the people who work in the child protection's system, to reach a standardized formation program, which should be coherent, flexible, adaptable and useful for the construction of the European context.
