Summary: | The aim of this article is to determine the variables that predict the levels of sedentary lifestyle in population between 18 and 60 years old through the collection of socio-demographic and anthropometric information, prevalence of physical activity and levels of sedentary lifestyle (Test Pérez et al, 1996). A sample of 631 individuals from Manizales city was taken. The relation of dependence between the assessed variables was estimated through univariate and bivariate statistic techniques. By means of logistic regression, a model to establish which variables allow the prediction of the levels of sedentary lifestyle was elaborated. Sedentary lifestyle prevalence close to 72% was reported, as well as an absence of physical activity of 46% that was more evident in female population. The results of the bivariate analysis conclude that the level of sedentary lifestyle has a dependency relation with the genre (p<0,000), level of physical activity (p<0,009), initial heart rate (p<0,000), weekly frequency (p<0,000), time of practice (p<0,014), BMI (p<0,009), risk factor (p<0,001). The level of physical activity has a dependency relation with genre (p<0,000), initial heart rate (p<0,000), weekly frequency (p<0,000), level of sedentary lifestyle (p<0,000). It was established from the interrelation of the different variables and the association shown in the model of logistic regression that age, genre, weekly frequency of the practice, BMI, waist measures, and initial heart rate explain the behavior of the levels of sedentary lifestyle in a significant way. The correspondence between file observed levels and those prognosticated by file model was 72,5%. [PUBLICATION ABSTRACT] |
