Das vorliegende Buch zeigt, dass und wie Mystik, Scholastik und reformatorische Theologie, aber auch christliche Subjektphilosophie, jüdischer Panentheismus und liberale Aufklärung sowie schließlich Demokratie, Christentum und Ethik zusammenhängen. Gerade in einer Zeit, in der Religion in Europa an Boden verliert, in der die postmodernen Ideale der Alterität und Pluralität in der Krise sind und in der gesellschaftlicher Zusammenhalt zerbricht, gewinnt diese Besinnung auf die neuzeitliche Metaphysik eine provokative Brisanz und eröffnet in der aktuellen Zeitenwende eine neue Perspektive sowohl für die Theologie als auch für die Philosophie.
