문학인류학적 관점에서 고찰하는 상하이 민족지(1)―『해상화열전』

이 글은 흔히 허구라고 인식된 소설 텍스트를 민족지 텍스트로 설정했다. 민족지학자가 현지에 들어가 일정 기간 참여관찰을 통해 조사하고 핵심인물을 인터뷰해서 민족지를 기록하듯이, 작가 또한 현지조사와 참여관찰 그리고 인터뷰를 하는데, 이런 과정을 거친 작품을 민족지로 설정한 것이다. 이를 위해 민족지와 문학 텍스트의 유사성을 이론적으로 점검해보았다. 이 연구의 기본적인 전제는 다음과 같다. 흔히 허구라고 인식된 근현대소설 텍스트를 인류학적 텍스트로 설정해보자는 것이다. 그리고 인류학자가 현지에 들어가 일정 기간 참여관찰을 통해 조사하고 핵심인물을 인터뷰해서 민족지를 기록하듯이, 작가 또한 현지조사와 참여관찰 그리고 인터뷰를 하는데, 이런 과정을 거친 작품을 민족지로 설정해 보자는 것이다. 전기를 생애사로, 소설가를 현지 조사하는 인류학자로, 소설 텍스트를 민족지로, 작중 인물을 정보제공자로 설정하는 것이다. 물론 모든 텍스트와 작가를 민족지와 인류학자로 볼 수는 없다. 가장 중요한 것은 ‘참여 관찰 participant observation’의 자세를 취하는 관찰자 화자와 시점이라 할 수 있다. 이 글은 최근 중국 근현대문학의 효시로 각광받고 있는 『해상화열전(海上花列傳)』을 상하이 민족지로 가정하고, 19세기 말 상하이 조계와 기루, 상하이의 새로운 주체 상인과 기녀에 대한 분석을 통해 『해상화열전』의 민족지 성격을 고찰했다. 그리고 『해상화열전』을 성찰과 개탄의 다성적 텍스트로 파악하는 동시에 그것을 잘 구현하고 있는 천삽(穿揷)과 장섬(藏閃)의 문학 장치의 효용성을 점검했다. This article take a novel text which have been recognized as a fiction as a ethnography text. As an ethnographist went into the field, investigated it for a definite period of time through the participant observation and interviewing key persons, lastly wrote a ethnography, an author did a field work, participant observation and interview. In order to first examine the possibility of considering a literary work as an ethnography, the research looks into the role of imagination and the mechanism of fictionalization. History of Shanghai literature is in fact a significant part of China’s modern and contemporary literary history, so much that it is difficult to consider it as an independent realm. On the other hand, ‘literary Shanghai,’ a term designating Shanghai found within the literature and also the literal text which represents Shanghai, is an approach similar to the notion of ‘Shanghai ethnography,’ which is why the research has reviewed several related texts. After theoretically examining the similarity between the ethnography and the literature text, this article analyzed Shanghai Flowers(海上花列傳) by HAN Bangqing(韓邦慶) which was spotlighted as the beginning of Chinese modern literature. This study supposed that Shanghai Flowers is a good Shanghai ethnography and analyzed its ethnographic aspect from the concession and the geisha house, the merchant and the geisha of Shanghai in nineteenth century. Finally this article took Shanghai Flowers as a polyphonic text and made an inspection of the virtue of its literature apparatus, which HAN called it ‘chuancha(穿揷)’ and ‘cangshan(藏閃)’.
