Summary: | High power lasers at 1 μm are widely used for cutting and drilling of various challenging materials, such as sapphire, display glass, and ceramics. Good mechanical, optical, and thermal properties of potential laser materials are required to achieve good beam quality and stable high-power laser performance. The rare-earth sesquioxide crystals Lu 2 O 3 , Sc 2 O 3 , and Y 2 O 3 are very suitable for high-power applications when doped with Yb 3+ , which is mainly owed to their relatively high thermal conductivity [1] . |
