Summary:The objective of this research was to study and develop the surveillance and disease investigation system in the 8th Regional Health. In order to prevent diseases before becoming epidemic, the surveillance and disease investigator teams needed the effective and efficient information system. The existing surveillance system provided by Bureau of Epidemiology (BOE) under the Department of Disease Control (DDC), the Ministry of Public Health (MOPH) was studied and evaluated to determine the information and technology gaps. The system was analyzed using questionnaire concerning proper assessments of the information system and accommodation of the data concerned among the hospitals in the 8th regional health. Using the information technology to redesign and reorganize the protocols and processes for surveillances and disease investigations including disease preventions, the new surveillance and disease investigation system was aimed to become more effective and efficient than the existing system. The evaluation of the system was employed in controlling of the Dengue Haemorrhagic Fever (DHF). The target groups of the study were provincial hospitals, general hospitals and community hospitals within the 8th regional health, consisting of 87 hospitals where each hospital has different processes of case managements. The construction and renovation of information system for surveillance and disease investigation were settled along with the training system for prospective data collections and the staffs. The 506 file report was also assessed for the evaluation.
