This paper describes a DDS transceiver IC for full duplex data-transmission on four-wire twisted-pair telephone lines, using the alternate mark inversion (AMI) line code.1 One of fourteen bit rates, ranging from 2.4kb/s to 72kb/s, may be selected by the user. Partially-integrated solutions exist, but this design combines analog and digital circuit techniques to fit the entire transceiver function on a single die.2 A block diagram of the transceiver is shown in Figure 1, with external components outside the broken line.
