Abstract This paper presents a compact current-mode CMOS design for the implementation of fuzzy controllers, using membership functions with variable output ranges. This design aims to avoid the division operation required to obtain the final crisp output. A feedback block is included, whose complexity does not depend on the number of rules of the fuzzy controller, thus the circuit can be applied to very complex systems.
