Abstract The Internet of Everything (IoE) is the future trend of network development, and multi-protocol switching chips have a wide range of applications in the field of IoE. Currently, there is a lack of research on scheduling algorithms in switching chips that consider fairness optimization mechanisms for both unicast and multicast queues. This paper proposes differentiated aging algorithms for multicast and unicast scheduling algorithms based on a self-developed multi-protocol switching architecture, which aims to improve the efficiency and fairness of packet forwarding in a multi-protocol network environment. By implementing an aging algorithm based on priority scheduling, the algorithm achieves gradual aging for unicast packets and immediate aging for multicast packets. The effectiveness of this algorithm is verified through simulation, and practical applications demonstrate that the proposed priority aging scheduling algorithm can meet the latency and throughput requirements for packet forwarding in multi-protocol switching scenarios.
