Summary:The gorge of Ratajska Reka, in the central part of Polimlje region (Yugoslavia), is a typical refugium, with the conserved predilluvial characteristics and plant species. The site is characterized by a series of negative ecological properties: strong slope, skeletal soil, intense insolation on steep southern slopes, etc. The edificators of the community Cotino-monspessulo colurnetum are the three relict tertiary species: Cotinus coggygria, Acer monspessulanum and Corylus colurna. In ten plant community recordings, 110 plant species have been observed. The coenobionts of the community Cotino-monspessulo-colurnetum belong to sub-Mediterranean-Pontic-Central-Asian region.
