Abstract An attempt to estimate various types of deviation of cultivated soils from their virgin analogs was made. In this attempt a fixed set of soil ecological parameters (values of Eh and Ph; activities of potassium, calcium, and nitrate ions in soil liquid phase measured in situ) was used. The directions of current soil formation were determined, and the ratio of the degrees of soil transformation during agricultural use was estimated as 1:7:8:12 for black:brown:forest gray:podzol soils. It was shown that cultivation leads to district types of soil agrocenosis; their properties and ecological role differ from those of their natural precursors
