Abstract Harvest index, yield components and nitrogen content of triticale, wheat and rye genotypes were determined in 1987 and 1988, in the Brazilian Triticale Yield Trial, and in nitrogen trials using cultivars Triticale BR 1 and Triticale BR 2. Harvest index values ranged from 0.43 to 0.48 for triticale. For wheat and rye the harvest index was 0.38 and 0.28, respectively. Nitrogen levels applied on triticale tended to increase the number of spikes per area and the nitrogen concentration in the straw. Nitrogen concentration in the grain and straw tended to be higher in wheat than in both triticale and rye. Average nitrogen concentration in triticale was 2.2 percent in grain and 0.55 percent in straw. Rye presented the lowest weight per grain and wheat presented the smallest number of grains per spike
