Abstract An experiment was done to determine the foliar efficiency of 3 pesticides (imidacloprid, buprofecin and butocarboxim) on the Woolly White Fly (W.W.F.) Aleurothrixus floccosus (Mask.), also observing the toxicity on its parasitoid Cales noacki How. Shoots damaged by the W.W.F. were chosen in a satsuma orchard, variety "Owari". In every shoot, 3 areas (A, B and C) were considered, depending on its development. Results were: Imidacloprid is the most effective product on eggs (directly, and indirectly because of its repellent effect on the females) and on the total of larvae, because of its quick effect against young larvae (L1, L2 and L3) in the newest zones of the shoot. However, it allows parasitism by Cales at low levels. Buprofecin is effective on very young larvae (L1 and L2) in the long term, and gives the highest percent of parasitism by Cales (parasitized larvae and parasitized puparia). Butocarboxim does not get a good result on larvae L4 and pupae, allowing the highest total larval survival observed. It is not harmful for Cales. Placing yellow traps in order to capture the adult form of the W.W.F. and Cales, was not useful to assess the population and evaluate the action of the pesticides. All the pesticides reduce the pest population levels, and increase the size of the fruits compared with untreated trees, but do not affect harvest. According to this trial, the diameter of the fruit decreases 0.7 mm. (with a loss of 1.5 ptas./kg. of fruit), for each larva/cm2 of W.W.F. on the leaves.
