Summary:In this study, Sungai Perlis was selected as the study site because it has adopted the Effective Microorganism (EM) technology in efforts to improve the river water quality. Unfortunately, it is currently experiencing heavy erosion at its river banks and has become very shallow. The objectives of this study are to establish the pollutant profile along Sungai Perlis during high tide and low tide and also to study the land use along Sungai Perlis and relate it to the water quality of the river. This study involves both field and laboratory investigations. Five monitoring stations for river water quality had been chosen that are one station in the upstream of Sungai Perlis, two station in the middle of Sungai Perlis and two stations at downstream of Sungai Perlis. These points had been chose because of land use area and heavy populated area. This research reviews the water quality of Sungai Perlis resulting from land useactivities needs concern for the more sustainable management of river water quality and protecting valuable water resources.
