Summary:In 1989 in the Unit of Forest Development and Conservation number 2 in Madera City, Chih, Mexico, a previously thinned young stand of Pinus durangensis, was subjected to prescribed burning applied at two different seasons, to reduce the amount of fuel and to know the effects of fire in the remaining trees. The percentage of reduction in the amount of fuel ranged from 13 to 38%. From 1090 trees within the burned plots, only eight of them died. The prescribed burning can be applied in either autumn or winter but considering the prescribed conditions En 1989, en la Unidad de Conservacion y Desarrollo Forestal No. 2 en Madera, Chih; un rodal joven de Pinus durangensis, previamente aclarado fue sujeto a quemas prescritas en dos epocas diferentes, para reducir el material combustible y determinar el efecto del fuego en el arbolado residual. El porcentaje de reduccion de combustibles totales vario de un 13 a un 38%. De un total de 1090 arboles de las parcelas tratadas unicamente ocho murieron. Las quemas se pueden aplicar tanto en otono como en invierno, siempre y cuando se consideren las condiciones prescritas
