Abstract Heavy metal contamination is one of the problems of agricultural soils that its risk has been grown with the growth of industrialization and changing of the life procedure. On the other hand happening of wars and using of different weapons are the other source of heavy metal contamination of soil and waters. Indeed, the amount of plant available forms of heavy metals in soil is the most important part of these elements in soils. This research project was conducted to evaluate the availability of Cd, Pb, Cu and Ni in agricultural contaminated soils from Khuzestan province. Several extractants have been examined in a laboratory and greenhouse separate experiments. Results showed that among the three extractant, DTPA at pH=7.3, EDTA at pH=8.6 and EDTA at pH=4.65 , DTPA at pH=7.3 could be a relatively acceptable index to predict the status of the availability of Cu, Cd and Pb for wheat plant growing in contaminated soils. But any of these three extractants could not give an acceptable prediction about Ni availability. Further studies can be recommended to find best Ni extractant in these soils.
