Abstract Securing the articles of food is one of the most important objects for Iranian nation. Wheat, Triticum aestivum L., as the basic product in Iranian nutritive model has such a special place that it is always regarded as the basic axis in policy making issues. The major part of dry lands which have high productivity, located in tropical and semitropical regions of the country, and they sustained considerable damages during drought period in several recent years. Therefore the specification of tolerance to drought and stability in cultivated cultivars in the region and existing lines in regional experiments is a suitable way that can help to improve yield and decreases damages in undesirable rural years. So in this study 16 cultivars and advanced lines of wheat were studied under four different conditions of normal irrigation (without stress), early season stress, late season stress and complete stress (rainfeed). Complete randomized blocks designs with three replication were used for independent experiments for one rural year in the farms of agricultural research center of Moghan. Simple and combined variance analysis of the studied traits showed that there are significant differences between genotypes for most of the characters, also in combined variance interaction effects of stress condition and genotypes is significant for most of the traits and this indicates different reaction of genotypes in different conditions of drought stress. Simple analysis of variance for tolerance indicator in different traits in three conditions of stress showed that genotypes showed different changes relative to normal condition. Based on this fact drought stress indices TOL, GMP, MP, SSI, STI accounted and the genotypes were devised in four groups of A, B, C and D according to the STI. Based on this clustering Chamran cultivar and the line N-81-16 are recommendable as the most suitable cultivar and line for cultivating in normal condition and different drought stresses (early season stress, late season stress and complete drought stress).
