Abstract | Blast (Pyricularia oryzae Cav.) is an important upland rice disease. A genetic study of this disease is important to identify the gene controlling the resistance. Kencana Bali (a susceptible rice variety) was crossed with three resistant varieties: Klemas, Napa, and Leter and also crossed reciprocally at Muara, Bogor. Seventeen to twenty day old plants of parental, F1 and F2 lines were inoculated with P. oryzae isolate 26 (1G-1 at the laboratory of Phytopathology, BORIF. A complete randomized design with three replications was used in the experiment. The results showed that the resistance of Klemas to blast was controlled by an incomplete single dominant negative gene. The resistance of Napa to isolate 26 was controlled by two dominant genes, and that in Leter by a dominant gene. The three varieties are good for parents to improve blast resistance high yielding rice varieties but susceptible to blast. |
