Abstract Biotechnological methods are not only widely used in today's modern animal breeding, they are already indispensable. These consist of artificial insemination (Al), embryo transfer (ET), production of identical twins by embryo-splitting, cryopreservation of semen, oocytes and embryos, gene manipulation methods and in vitro production of embryos. Fertilization become independent from time and place, gene-banks became established. More offspring are produced from top animals making selection faster and more effective. The importance of these possibilities is increasing. A strong research base is constantly needed to elaborate techniques for practical uses. One of the AL methods, becoming more and more prevalent, by injecting spermatozoa into the perivitelline space, or into the cytoplasm of the oocyte. By these methods, offspring may be obtained from semen of very low quality (even by injecting immotile spermatozoa). Application of these methods could result in significant progress in some special fields
