Abstract In the present period of stringent regulation in the use of herbicides, mesotrione is fit for fulfilling the criteria required to be a key herbicide for maize Integrated Crop Management. Mesotrione presents relevant tox and ecotox properties as well as a relevant agronomical profile: low rates, flexible use timing post and pre emergence of the weeds and crop, wide spectrum on broadleaved weeds and key grass weeds. Combined with reduced rates of herbicides partners, mesotrione can be considered as a new opportunity to build adapted weed control strategies.
