Summary:Simplified grassland improvement cannot be used in case of low-valued grass stands of natural grassland growing on alluvial swamps. Therefore it is expedient to establish permanent meadows on polder drained alluvial swamps where the grasses with different growth rate-meadow foxtail, cocksfoot, reed canary grass, bromegrass, tall fescue and timothy are used as the dominants in the grass stands. To establish such grass stands the share of dominating species in seed rate should be 60 per cent and that of additional species (smooth meadow grass, timothy) 20 per cent of each. Grass fodder of higher quality can be produced mainly from the first cuts of the threefold cutting. It is necessary to apply the alternation of mainly two- and threefold cuttings which will guarantee productive longevity of grass stands.
