Summary:The necessity of weed control in broad bean is more or less determined by growth intensity of crops, local conditions, weed diversity and the duration and degree of weed infestation. In broad beans the following weed species occur often: Chenopodium spp., Polygonum spp., Stellaria media, Fumaria officinalis, Matricaria spp., Anthemis spp., Tripleurospermum spp., Thlaspi arvense, Veronica spp. Strong competitive species are Chenopodium spp. and Galium aparine. Especially during the first weeks after the emergence of broad beans weeds can exert a yield-decreasing influence. Soil loosening, once or twice (before and after emergence) had no positive effect on yield
