Abstract | 1447335 Quenching metal articles NIPPON KOKAN KK 15 Nov 1974 [28 Nov 1973] 49441/74 Heading C7N Water is heated in a pressure vessel to above 100‹C (but below its boiling point), and blown through a nozzle (by virtue of the pressure in the vessel) to form a spray of steam and entrained water droplets directed at a high temperature object, e.g. steel plates, slabs &c, to be cooled. Water and steam are fed to vessel 201 by pipes 210, 208 respectively, the steam heating the water to above 100‹C, and the spray emerges from nozzle 202. The pressure, level and temperature may be measured by gauges 205, 207, 206. The water may, alternatively, be heated electrically. In a modification Fig. 3 (not shown) the waste water falling from object 204 is collected, passed to a tank (215) strained and pumped back into the vessel. In a simpler arrangement Fig. 1 (not shown) water is heated to the desired temperature in the pressure vessel without steam injection, e.g. by electricity. |
