Abstract A dual complementary target arrangement is provided which enables the targets to be formed as an integral part of a cam rotatable shaft. By machining first and second radially enlarged integral portions of a rotatable shaft, complementary targets are provided which each comprises segments of differing radial dimension measured from the central axis of the shaft. By permitting the formation of the rotatable targets as an integral portion of a camshaft, the complementary targets can be incorporated as an integral portion of an automobile engine without necessitating the prefabrication of complementary targets and subsequent attachment of the targets to a camshaft. Not only does the unitary structure of the camshaft reduce the manufacturing costs of the target and shaft combination, but in certain applications it makes possible the use of complementary targets within the structure of an automobile engine where the use of individual components attached together would not be practical. L'invention concerne une configuration à double cible complémentaire intégrée dans un arbre à cames rotatif. On produit ces cibles complémentaires comprenant chacune des segments à dimension radiale différente mesurée à partir de l'arbre du moteur, en usinant une première et une seconde parties intégrées radialement agrandies d'un arbre rotatif. Du fait que les cibles rotatives fassent partie intégrante d'un arbre à cames, les cibles complémentaires peuvent être intégrées dans un moteur d'automobile sans qu'il soit nécessaire de préfabriquer lesdites cibles et sans fixation ultérieure de celles-ci à un arbre à cames. Cette structure monobloc de l'arbre à cames permet non seulement de réduire les coûts de fabrication de l'ensemble cible et arbre, mais également, dans certaines applications, d'utiliser des cibles complémentaires dans des zones de la structure d'un moteur d'automobile où l'utilisation de composants individuels fixés les uns aux autres ne serait pas pratique.
