Compounds of formula (I) or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt or ester thereof, wherein R is -H or C1-10 alkyl; R is -H or C1-10 alkyl; R is C1-10 alkyl, C2-10 alkenyl, C1-10 alkoxyl, cyano, or triphenylthio- C1-6 alkyl; and R is a mono-substituent or di-substituent are useful as inhibitors of 5 alpha -reductase. These compounds can be used alone or in combination with other active agents to treat acne, androgenic alopecia, female hirsutism, benign prostatic hyperplasia, prostatitis, and treat and prevent prostatic carcinoma. Composés de la formule (I) ou l'un de ses sels ou ester pharceutiquement acceptables en tant qu'inhibiteurs de la 5alpha-réductase, formule dans laquelle R1 représente un alkyle C1-10 ou -H; R2 représente un alkyle C1-10 ou -H; R3 représente un alkyle C1-10, alcényle C2-10, alcoxyle C1-10, cyano ou triphénylthio alkyle -C1-6; R4 est un monosubstituant ou bisubstituant. Ces composés peuvent s'utiliser seuls ou en association avec d'autres principes actifs dans le traitement de l'acnée, de l'alopécie androgénique, de l'hirsutisme féminin, d'hyperplasies begnignes de la prostate et la prévention du carcinome de la prostate.
