The present invention is directed to compounds useful for hydrolyzing proteins in pyonecrotic matter comprising a protease attached to a hydrophilic gel or to the gel in combination with water-soluble polymer. The compound preferably comprises subtilisins covalently attached to polyethylene glycol (PEG): gel combined with PEG in liquid form. The invention is further directed to methods of preparing a gel by electron beam radiation, and sterilizing the mixture with radiation, preferably by electron beam or gamma-ray radiation. The present invention also relates to methods of hydrolyzing proteins by administering an effective amount of the proteolytic compounds of the present invention. La présente invention se rapporte à des composés pouvant être utilisés pour hydrolyser des protéines dans une matière pyonécrotique, et comprenant une protéase liée à un gel hydrophile, ou à un tel gel en combinaison avec un polymère soluble dans l'eau. Le composé comprend de préférence des subtilisines présentant une liaison covalente à du gel de polyéthylène glycol (PEG) combiné avec du PEG sous une forme liquide. L'invention se rapporte en outre à des procédés de préparation d'un gel par exposition à un faisceau d'électrons, et de stérilisation du mélange par exposition à un rayonnement, de préférence par exposition à un faisceau d'électrons ou à un rayonnement gamma. L'invention se rapporte également à des procédés permettant d'hydrolyser les protéines, et qui consistent à administrer une dose efficace des composés protéolytiques de la présente invention.
