Abstract A method for producing dense aluminum nitride articles having enhanced thermal conductivity is disclosed. The method comprises the steps of forming a powder compact comprising AlN alone or in combination with other ceramic compounds, adding a densification aid, subsequently exposing the compact to an environment which serves to reduce the oxygen content of the compact, and then densifying the compact by sintering or hot-pressing to provide a dense article. The densified AlN article is found to have a high thermal conductivity. On a mis au point un procédé de production d'articles de nitrure d'aluminium denses présentant une conductivité thermique augmentée. Le procédé comprend les étapes consistant à former un agglomérat de poudre comprenant de l'AlN seul ou combiné avec d'autres composés céramiques, à ajouter un auxiliaire de densification, puis à exposer ledit agglomérat à un environnement servant à réduire la teneur en oxygène de l'agglomérat, et ensuite à densifier ledit agglomérat par frittage ou compression à chaud afin d'obtenir un article dense. On a découvert que ledit article d'AlN densifié présente une conductivité thermique élevée.
