Abstract A monitoring device for an energy storage system (ESS) according to an embodiment of the present invention comprises a processor which: on the basis of voltage data of cells included in a battery among operation data of the ESS, identifies whether a voltage difference between the cells exceeds a first threshold; when the voltage difference exceeds the first threshold, identifies whether the battery is in an over-discharge reserve state on the basis of at least one of an idle period of the battery and the accumulated number of times of at least one cell having a minimum voltage value among the cells; and when the battery is in the over-discharge reserve state, outputs alarm information for the ESS.
