Abstract Provided is a composition for coating a plant seed, the composition being capable of promoting early growth of a plant or being capable of promoting growth under a stressed condition. A composition for coating a plant seed according to one or more embodiments of the present invention is characterized by containing allantoin, an amino acid, and an agriculturally acceptable carrier. Preferably, the amino acid is L-tryptophan. One or more other embodiments of the present invention relate to a coated seed that comprises a seed of a plant and a composition present on the surface of the seed, the composition containing allantoin and an amino acid.
