A sleep state inference method according to the present invention infers the sleep state of one person, among a plurality of people, who is asleep, said sleep state inference method comprising: a body movement detection step (S101) for acquiring a detection signal, which is a detection result from a detector not worn by a person, and using the acquired detection signal to detect a body movement of the person; a person behavior detection step (S102) for detecting, on the basis of signal information from an external device (202), a wakeful behavior of another person different from said person; a distinguishing step (S103) for distinguishing said person from said another person among the plurality of people on the basis of the acquired detection signal and the detected wakeful behavior; and a state inference step (S106) for inferring the sleep state of said distinguished person on the basis of the detected body movement of said person.
