Abstract | This illumination device and this image reading device are each characterized by being provided with: a rod-like light guide body (2) that extends in the longitudinal direction, that guides light having entered from the outside, and that emits the light as linear light from the lateral surface (2b); a light guide body holder (3) that has holes (4a) through each of which an end surface (2a) of the light guide body (2) is inserted; a support (6) that supports the light guide body holder (3) so as to be slidable along the longitudinal direction; and a casing (7) which supports or stores the light guide body (2), a light guide body holder (4), and the support (6), and to which at least the support (6) is fixed, wherein the sliding direction of the light guide body holder (3) is restricted to the longitudinal direction by a support-side recess/projection part (8) that is one of a support side groove (8a) and a support side projection (8b) at least one of which is formed in the support (6) along the longitudinal direction.
