The present invention relates to an oxygen monitoring system for a furnace. The system includes an oxygen monitoring probe including an oxygen sensor for providing a sensed oxygen signal. Further, the system includes a reader including a high input impedance amplifier for receiving the sensed oxygen signal. Advantageously, the high input impedance amplifier provides signal isolation or conditioning thereby reducing error uncertainties in oxygen readings.
