Abstract Provided is a photocatalyst with which the time required for decomposing an object to be decomposed can be reduced. This photocatalyst (1) comprises cuprous bromide, and the cuprous bromide exhibits, with the irradiation of light, a photocatalytic property for decomposing a substance in contact with the cuprous bromide. A gas sensor device is also provided, said gas sensor device being provided with a first electrode, a second electrode, and a sensitive film that connects the first electrode and the second electrode, the sensitive film comprises cuprous bromide, and the cuprous bromide exhibits, with the irradiation of light, a photocatalytic property for decomposing a substance in contact with the cuprous bromide.
